Beta Permissions: How can I make project manager and people assignments for Managers?

This article is for Harvest beta permissions.  The beta program is available to team accounts who opted in. If you're looking for information on permissions for a non-beta account, you can find that in the Team Permissions article of our regular Help Center.

With beta permissions, Managers can report on and approve time and expenses tracked by people assigned to projects they manage AND time and expenses tracked by their assigned people.

Assigning someone to manage a project

There are two places where you can update a teammate's ability to manage a project: 

  • When you create or edit a project
  • A person's profile

Administrators can make project assignments in either place. Only Managers with assigned people have access to a person's profile, and they can only add people to projects they're assigned to manage.

  1. When creating a new project or editing an existing project, scroll down to the project's Team section. 
  2. Check the box for Manages this project next to the name of the people you'd like to manage the project.
  3. Be sure to click Update project or Save project.

Note: If you set a Member as the manager of a project, their team permissions will change to Manager.

Assigning a person to manage a project from their User Profile

  1. Head to Team and click Actions > Edit next to the person you'd like to update. 
  2. From the Assigned projects tab, select the box in the Manages this project? column for any projects the person should manage. 

Making people assignments for Managers

With beta permissions, team members with Manager permissions can be now be assigned a group of people. Only Administrators can make people assignments.

  1. Head to Team and click Actions > Edit next to the person you'd like to update. 
  2. From the Assigned people tab, click into the Find and select people to assign... field. You can type a person's name or scroll through the list of names to select. 
  3. When you've finished selecting all of the people for this person to manage, click Assign people
