Dashboards

A dashboard is a configurable, at-a-glance view of your Harvest data. Where a report answers one question in detail, a dashboard puts several measures side by side so you can see how the business is doing without running each report separately, and can be shared with a client as an ongoing view rather than an export.

Getting started

  1. Access the Dashboards tab,
  2. Click 'Create new dashboard',
  3. Add a chart,
  4. On a chart card, click Edit chart. A settings panel opens beside it with two tabs.

How can I present my data?

Harvest offers a range of data presentation methods, so you can choose the optimal way to display insights. Choose from: Line, Area, Bar, Stacked bar, Histogram, Box plot, Heatmap, Donut, Pie.

What metrics do I have available?

Dashboards provision all metrics you can find across Harvest Reports - over 30 performance metrics to monitor your business performance.

Select chart types allow you to add additional variables to plot more than one measure on the same chart. Additionally, you can assign a Breakdown to split variables into components. For example, Hours per Week broken down by Client.

Styling

The Styling tab allows you to edit the visual aesthetics of your charts.

Theme - choose from 5 different templates to find what best reflects your brand identity.

Axis Titles - label data in line with the terminology familiar to your team or clients.

Show data labels - choose whether data values should be presented on your chart.

Show legend - choose whether your chart should include a label for each variable plotted should.

Element styling - edit the colour and legend labels of each variable plotted on your chart.

Filtering your data

If you want a dashboard dedicated to a specific subject, we've got you covered. Leverage quick and easy filters at the top of your dashboard to limit data to particular: Clients, Projects, Roles, Departments, Teammates or time periods.

Alternatively, each chart carries a unique filtering section, allowing you to filter on any variable needed. Select a Variable, Operator and Value, then Save your filter. Want to only see Teammates with over 80% utilization? Or perhaps only Projects with under 10% Budget remaining? All possible!

Saving a dashboard

When you're happy with the state of your dashboard, click Save dashboard in the top right. Assign a name and description, and it will be available at all times with live data for you to return to.

Re-visiting your dashboards

Simply re-access the Dashboards tab to find all your saved work. Search for specific names or descriptions, and filter between those you created, or ones shared by teammates.

Sharing a dashboard

Once a dashboard is saved, it can be shared with colleagues. Access More > Share actions within the dashboard, and choose who should have Edit or View Only access.

If a teammate is missing access to data available in the dashboard, we will warn you. By default, when shared that teammate will only be able to see charts which comply with their Harvest permissions. Alternatively, we'll provide a shortcut to grant access to the permissions they are missing.

Download a dashboard

Download dashboards via More actions. Downloads are available in PDF, CSV or Excel format.

Note: Dashboards are rolling out gradually. If you don't see them in your account yet, see Why isn't a new feature available to me?
