Version 2 billing and Free accounts: Cancelling your subscription or closing your account

If you'd like to stop your subscription, you can schedule its cancellation or close the account immediately. Only the Account Owner can cancel a subscription or close an account. If you don't see the Close account tab in the sidebar of your Settings, you aren't the Account Owner and can't take this action.

If you need help updating the Account Owner for your account, please refer to What is an Account Owner? How do I change the Account Owner in my Harvest account?

Note that you must use a web browser to close your account or cancel your subscription; these actions aren't available in our mobile or desktop apps

Close your account immediately (Free, Teams, and Enterprise plans)

To close your account, the Account Owner can take the following steps in a web browser:

  1. Head to Settings > Billing.
  2. Click Manage.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Close account permanently.
  4. Select Close my account immediately.
  5. Review the close account information and click Continue.
  6. Answer the three questions about why you're closing the account.
  7. Share any additional feedback, then click Close my account.

If you don't see the Manage option on your Billing page, follow the steps in the next section instead.

Scheduling the cancellation of your subscription

This option allows you to keep using Harvest until the end of the subscription, at which point the account will automatically close.

Once your account is closed, we’ll email the Account Owner a link to download your account’s time and invoice data, which will be available for one week. In addition, all data in the account will be maintained for six months.

If the account isn’t reactivated after six months, it’ll be permanently deleted along with any data in it. For this reason, we recommend that you also export all data before canceling your subscription.

To schedule your subscription for cancellation, the Account Owner can take the following steps in a web browser:

  1. Head to Settings > Billing.
    • Only Administrators can view and change account settings.
  2. Click the Close account link.
  3. Select Cancel my subscription.
    • If this option is grayed out, it may be because you have a scheduled subscription change. Go back to Settings and click Undo in the Billing tab, then return to step 2 in these instructions.
  4. Review the cancel subscription information and click Continue.
  5. Answer the three questions about why you're cancelling the subscription.
  6. Share any additional feedback, then click Cancel my account.
    • Your account will remain active until your subscription ends.

How cancelling your Harvest subscription affects your Forecast account

If the Harvest account is connected to a Forecast account, your linked Forecast account will stay connected to the Harvest account for six months after your Harvest subscription is cancelled.

After six months, the connection between the accounts will be destroyed. The Forecast account will remain active, but it will be disconnected from Harvest. You can contact us if you want the accounts disconnected ahead of time. If you'd also like to close your Forecast account, you can find the steps to do so in our article on closing your Forecast account.

Keeping your account active after scheduling the subscription for cancellation

Any Administrator on an account can withdraw a scheduled subscription cancellation. To do so, take the following steps in a web browser:

  1. Click on Settings (upper right corner).
    • Only Administrators can view and change account settings.
  2. Click Billing in the left sidebar.
  3. In the Current plan section, click the Cancel link in the yellow message box.
  4. Click the Yes, undo cancellation button on the following pop-up message.

Once this action is taken, the account will no longer close after its renewal date; it’ll remain active and stay on its current billing plan.

Reactivating a cancelled account

Any Administrator can restart a cancelled account within six months. To do so, take the following steps in a web browser:

  1. Click on Settings (upper right corner).
    • Only Administrators can view and change account settings.
  2. Click Billing in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Renew subscription.
  4. Complete the upgrade process.
    • Please note that this will start a new paid subscription.

Cancel your subscription by closing your account immediately

If you want to cancel your subscription and completely delete the account immediately, the Account Owner can close it from Settings. We’ll then email the Account Owner a link to download your account’s time and invoice data, which will be available for one week after the account is closed.

We highly recommend that you export any other data you may need before closing the account, because when an account is closed, all of its data is permanently removed from our system after 10 days. If any of the exports are emailed to you rather than downloaded immediately, please make sure you follow those links and download the reports before closing the account, as the links won’t be available after you’ve taken that step.

To close your account, the Account Owner can take the following steps in a web browser:

  1. Head to Settings > Billing
    • Only Administrators can view and change account settings.
  2. Click the Close account link.
  3. Select Close my account immediately.
  4. Review the close account information and click Continue.
  5. Answer the three questions about why you're closing the account.
  6. Share any additional feedback, then click Close my account.
    • Note that this action takes effect immediately, even if you have time remaining in your billing cycle, so please make sure you and your team are completely done using the account.

If you have mistakenly closed your account, contact support within 10 days so we can restore it. Your account and its data will not be recoverable after the account has been closed for 10 days.

How closing your Harvest account immediately affects your Forecast account

If the Harvest account you close is connected to a Forecast account, the Forecast account will be disconnected from Harvest and no longer benefit from the integration features, but won't otherwise be affected. The Forecast account will remain active and you and your team will continue to have access to it.

If you'd also like to close your Forecast account, you can find the steps to do so in our article on closing your Forecast account.
