Notion: Track time from Notion tasks

Using Harvest's Notion integration, you can track time directly to Harvest from your tasks in Notion by using the Harvest browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Note that "task" here refers to any item in a Notion database.

Using the Notion integration

Downloading the browser extension

If you don't already have the Harvest extension for your browser, you can find steps for downloading it in our articles on the Harvest Chrome extension, the Harvest Edge extension, and the Harvest Firefox extension.

Tracking time in Notion

Once you've signed in to your Harvest account in the browser extension, you can track time on any task in Notion:

  1. Click Start timer at the top of the task. A timer window will open up with the task name entered in the notes field.
      1. In your Harvest timesheet, you can click the time entry’s notes to jump directly to the task in Notion.
    1. Choose a project and task.
    2. Click Start timer or add a time duration (or start and end time) and click Save entry. The hands of the clock icon at the top of the task will start moving and the words will now say Stop timer.
    3. To stop a timer, click Stop timer at the top of the task. The timer window will open, and you can click Stop timer.

FAQ

Do Harvest and Notion projects/tasks sync?

No, you’ll have to manually set up projects and tasks in both Harvest and Notion. You can check out the third-party app Zapier to automate this.

Do I have to select the Harvest project and task every time I track from a Notion task?

No. Once you track time to a task in Notion, Harvest will remember the project and task that you tracked time to previously when starting a new timer from that same Notion task.

Why don't I see the clock timer on a Notion task?

The clock timer and the words Start timer (or Stop timer) will only show on a Notion task that’s open in side or center peek. They will not show if the task is open as a full page.

Does the Harvest integration work with the Notion desktop app?

The Notion integration is not currently supported in the desktop app. To use the Notion integration, you'll need to install and track from a web browser using a browser extension
